Noha Mellor, PhD

Welcome to my professional portal.

I am an academic with unique experiences across Europe and the Middle East. I am a native Egyptian who spent 30 years in Europe and am a dual citizen of the United Kingdom and Denmark. I hold BA, MA, and PhD degrees from the University of Copenhagen in Denmark.

Currently, I am a Media Professor at the University of Sharjah in the UAE, and I have held visiting professorships at Bournemouth University in the UK and Stockholm University in Sweden. My career includes significant tenures as a Professor at the University of Bedfordshire, Associate Professor at Kingston University London and the University of East London, and Lecturer at Copenhagen University.

Since joining the University of Sharjah in September 2022, I have guided six postgraduate students to successful completions, including the first two PhD graduates of the College of Communication. In the UK, I supervised a dozen PhD candidates to completion and examined over twenty others across several British universities, inspiring the next generation of scholars specializing in Middle Eastern studies.

I also served as a Member of the Peer Review Colleges of the UK Research & Innovations Council (2013-2024) and as a board member of the British Society of Middle Eastern Studies (BRISMES) for six years (2013-2019).

I have been involved in shaping media studies as a member of the editorial boards of top journals like the International Journal of Press/Politics, Journalism Studies, Arab Media & Society, and the Journal of Arab and Muslim Media Research, as an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies (2016-2022), and as an Associate Editor of Communication Theory (since January 2024).

My expertise extends beyond academia into impactful advisory roles, including advising the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Oxford Analytica, and the Middle East Broadcasting Networks. I have practical experience in the media field from my previous roles as a news producer at Danish Broadcasting and BBC World Service. I have contributed to leading international media outlets like the New York Times, Reuters, and the Financial Times and provided expert commentary across global platforms.

My ambition is to continue exploring the intersections of media, culture, and education across borders, to foster an understanding that bridges divides and enriches societies.
